Brushing technique: Most people are aware that brushing your teeth is an important component of your overall dental hygiene routine. We (hopefully) do it so often that it becomes second nature. However, excellent dental hygiene calls for the correct brushing technique, as opposed to the poor brushing habits we may sometimes slip into over time. For teeth as clean as they can be, brush for two minutes, position the brush correctly, and be gentle. Doing so can prevent tooth decay and cavities, which require trips to the dentist.

Flossing daily: Flossing helps release leftover food particles between teeth and below the gum line. Getting rid of this debris helps keep your gums healthy and free from harmful bacteria-laden plaque. Keep in mind that if plaque is not effectively removed, it can harden into a substance known as tartar that can only be removed professionally by a dentist. If tarter is allowed to remain, it can lead to periodontal disease, requiring additional treatment.
