Sometimes, our treatment objectives can be as simple as “I want to get rid of some of the white spots on my teeth.” These spots can occur for a variety of reasons from traumatic injury while the teeth were first forming to excessive fluoride in early childhood to high fevers early in life. Our goal is usually to conservatively treat any situation as it is our opinion that tooth structure is sacred. We cut it only when we have to. That said, we favor composite bonding to correct problems like Brandon’s. We slightly “air abraded” the discolored areas with a fine silicon oxide powder to remove a superficial layer of enamel. We then subsequently bonded the area with a mixture of different composite resins to achieve a conservative, esthetic treatment outcome.
