Committed to Lifelong Oral Health Through Family Dentistry
A lifetime of good oral health starts with the foundation of learning proper hygiene when we are young. All of our dental experts strive to provide young patients with the appropriate tools they need to maintain healthy, beautiful smiles throughout their lives. We also understand that our older patients have unique dental health needs. We offer a comprehensive range of restorative, preventive, and cosmetic procedures at our family dentistry practice in the York area. Our caring and educational team can help guide you and your loved ones to a lifetime of excellent oral health. If you are looking for a new family dentist, contact our office to schedule an appointment today.
Building A Foundation For Our Patients
One of our main focuses is to teach our younger patients proper habits and ensure they can maintain healthy teeth and gums throughout their lives. A focus on patient education helps children understand not only the importance of brushing and flossing, but also the potential negative impacts of eating a diet high in certain foods. We create individualized treatment plans for each of our younger patients and encourage them to be actively involved in their oral health.
When children come in for their first visit, our team will gently introduce them to the dental care experience. We will encourage them to explore the office and become comfortable with all of the technology and tools. We understand that children naturally have inquisitive minds, and therefore we will provide answers to any questions that come up.
Services For The Entire Family
Our goal at The Center for Dental Excellence is for your whole family to establish great oral health and be able to maintain it on your own with the help of professional cleanings and check-ups. We understand that patients have unique needs at different stages in their life, which is why we offer specialized services for grandma and grandpa too. Teeth will often become darkened or discolored as we age. As we get older, receding gums also become more common and you may become more prone to developing gum disease and root decay. We can treat these conditions with cosmetic and restorative procedures, and also provide patients with options like dental implants, dental crowns, and dentures to restore a strong, healthy bite.
What To Expect During Your Child’s First Exam
A child’s first visit to The Center for Dental Excellence will differ significantly from an adult’s. First, we will encourage your little ones to meet the members of our team and explore the office so that they can become familiar with their new surroundings. We understand that the tools and technology in our office may look intimidating to children, and therefore will take the time to answer any questions they may have. We can also explain what the different machines are for and how they work. Once the child is comfortable with our office, our doctors can perform a basic visual examination. You are encouraged to be beside your child during the exam, and if at any time they become distressed, we will stop this portion of the appointment.
Sealants And Fluoride Treatments
Dental examinations for children will typically involve the application of sealants and fluoride to help prevent decay. During the sealant procedure, a plastic resin material is placed on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth to protect against the formation of cavities. Fluoride occurs naturally in the enamel layer of the teeth. Minerals from the enamel layer are lost when acids formed by sugars and bacteria in the mouth attack the teeth. Fluoride treatments help to restore these lost minerals and make the teeth more resistant to the effects of acid in the future. Treatment with fluoride can even reverse signs of early decay. This is a very important part of pediatric check-ups since sealants and fluoride treatments protect and strengthen vulnerable developing teeth.
Setting A Good Example
It is important for you to play an active role in developing your kids’ dental habits as well. We advise patients to allow their children to regularly observe them brushing and flossing. Although they can help fine-tune their technique, they should encourage their kids to brush and floss on their own. Even if they cannot do the most thorough job at first, it is important to support the habit of maintaining their oral health every day.

When you come into our office, we want the entire family to feel comfortable and at ease.
